Abstract
The growing interest in virtual and remote laboratories has focused on STEM areas. However, the use of experiments and technologies applied to education can be broadened. Disciplines such as economic and administrative sciences have also been interested in immersive learning experiences and virtual laboratories. The purpose of this study was to systematize the experiences of developing virtual laboratories in the areas of economics and business. This study carried out a literature review and a bibliometric analysis of the thematic trends of 591 studies on virtual laboratories in economics and business, identified in the Scopus database. The analysis included characterizing general trends, thematic maps, and graphs to identify centralities and relationships between concepts. The results indicate that the interest of the studies is more focused primarily on the technological tool than on reflections on the contents, learning results, and development of skills. It is concluded that to advance in the consolidation of quality education in virtual and distance environments, it is necessary to place greater emphasis on pedagogical issues without ignoring the advances in the application of technology to experimentation in economic and administrative sciences.
