Open-access Sistema de Gestión de Recursos Educativos Digitales (SGRED): An Innovative Tool for the Administration of Academic Content in Virtual Higher Education

This research aimed to design and implement a Digital Educational Resource Management System (SGRED) at the Centro de Innovación y Gestión Pedagógica (CINGEP) of the Universidad Abierta para Adultos (UAPA) in order to optimize the organization, traceability, and control of content used in virtual learning environments. The study was conducted under an applied Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) approach using a mixed-methods methodology that integrated qualitative and quantitative techniques. An initial diagnosis was conducted with 33 academic managers, whose responses revealed difficulties in the previous model, such as file dispersion, the lack of a version control system, and the absence of standardized content validation processes. Based on these findings, a functional prototype of the SGRED was designed, developed, and implemented, featuring classification by week, type, and modality; status alerts; platform filters; report generation; resource status tracking; and a validation workflow. Subsequently, the system was implemented and evaluated through a pilot study involving seven academic managers, who assessed its usability and institutional relevance. Among the main findings, 71.4% of the participants stated that the SGRED resolved the previously identified problems, while 85.7% considered it aligned with the institution’s needs. It is concluded that the SGRED is an effective tool for enhancing the quality of virtual higher education by improving the control, collaboration, and monitoring of digital educational resources.
